In the upcoming year (2023-24), the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is geared to deliver impactful services through three key service areas:
This service area aims to facilitate agribusiness growth through innovative research, policy development, and comprehensive support services.
Mitigating risks and impacts associated with pests, diseases and weeds, this service area upholds standards for animal welfare and agricultural chemical use.
The Department’s objective is to position Queensland as a global leader in sustainable fisheries and fishing experiences, while ensuring strategic management of state-owned timber and quarry resources, aligning with community and government expectations.
The Corporate Business Group plays a crucial role in supporting service delivery by providing core corporate services and specialised offerings across the department. This group also extends its expertise in information technology services through strategic partnerships with multiple departments.

The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Director-General and spearhead the department’s mission of sustainable growth, innovation and inclusivity.
As Director-General, you will provide strategic leadership, setting a clear vision for communication, governance and values-based management across the department. Your ability to preserve and foster productive relationships with stakeholders will be pivotal in navigating diverse priorities and requirements.
Effective governance and efficient administration of the department’s operations will be at the forefront of your responsibilities by ensuring accountability for performance while coordinating services to support the Minister in achieving departmental priorities.
Championing transparency and ethical behaviour, you will uphold the administration of relevant Acts, encouraging innovation and consistency in practices. Modelling the highest ethical standards, you will ensure fairness and integrity in all departmental processes. Leading with awareness and inclusion, you will inspire exemplary problem-solving and decision-making practices, fostering a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion. Through clear rationale and inclusivity, you will drive positive change and commitment to diversity within the sector.
