Townsville Hospital and Health Service proudly acknowledges all First Nations peoples (Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders) and the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the country on which we live and work. We acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and culture and commit to ongoing reconciliation. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.
The Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) is dedicated to delivering safe and high quality healthcare to a diverse and growing population. As a major tertiary referral hospital, THHS provides a broad spectrum of specialised health services, including high-end acute care, advanced surgical procedures and critical care. In addition to its role as a centre for specialised and emergency care, THHS also delivers a comprehensive range of community health programs, aged care services, mental health support and outreach initiatives to ensure accessible and inclusive healthcare for all North Queenslanders. With a budget of $1.5 billion, THHS operates an extensive network of hospitals, clinics and community health services, supporting both urban and remote communities across the region.
THHS is seeking an accomplished Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of THHS. As CFO, you will lead the financial management strategy, ensuring fiscal accountability, optimising financial performance and driving sustainable investment in healthcare services. Reporting directly to the Health Service Chief Executive (HSCE), you will provide strategic financial direction, oversee major capital planning and ensure THHS meets all financial governance and compliance obligations.
THHS values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Engagement are at the core of everything they do. These principles guide leadership, decision-making and service delivery, ensuring that the health service remains focused on achieving the best outcomes for patients and the broader community. As CFO, it is essential to embody these values by demonstrating ethical leadership, fostering a high-performance financial culture and ensuring that financial decision-making aligns with THHS’s broader commitment to patient-centred care and community wellbeing.
You will be an exceptional financial leader with extensive senior leadership experience in strategic financial management, preferably within the healthcare sector or other complex service-driven organisations. You will bring a strong track record in managing complex budgets, optimising revenue streams and implementing effective financial governance. Strong stakeholder engagement skills are essential, with the ability to liaise with executive leadership, government bodies and external partners. Expertise in financial performance analysis, risk management, and compliance frameworks is also required. A deep understanding of government health funding models and activity-based funding would be highly regarded.
The role requires relevant tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, or Accounting, along with accreditation from a recognised professional accounting body. Additionally, the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a complex and fast-paced environment will be critical to success.
