COUNTry to COAST QLD

Recruitment of

Non-Executive Directors

Applications close COB Friday 17th October 2025

Country to Coast QLD proudly acknowledges all First Nations peoples (Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders) and the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the country on which we live and work. We acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and culture and commit to ongoing reconciliation. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

About Country to Coast Qld

Country to Coast Qld is an independent not-for-profit commissioning organisation funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health to improve the health outcomes of the region. There are 31 PHNs throughout the country servicing all the regions of Australia. PHNs replaced Medicare Locals on 1 July 2015.

We commission organisations to provide services that meet primary and preventive healthcare needs. Primary healthcare is the care that takes place outside of a hospital, such as GPs, allied health, chronic disease management, aged care, mental health and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health. Primary health care is recognised as the most effective way to keep communities and individuals healthy and well.

We identify where there are areas of need, such as lack of health care services, difficulty in accessing these services, or regions with particularly high health needs. We work closely with GPs, allied health care providers, hospitals and the broader community to ensure patients can receive the right care in the right place at the right time. Our seven key priority areas for health improvement are: mental health; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; population health planning; health workforce; digital health; aged care; and alcohol and other drugs.

The region starts as far south as Glasshouse Mountains and stretches north of Yeppoon; west beyond Emerald, encompassing Rockhampton, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Gayndah, Gladstone and Bundaberg.

We are advised by Community Advisory Councils, Clinical Councils and Regional Strategic Councils in each PHN area. The councils advise the PHN Board and programs on strategic direction and ensure we deliver programs to effectively meet the needs of all stakeholders in the region.

Our primary health care officers work with more than 250 practices in our region to deliver up-to-date information about primary health care. This includes improving the management of at-risk groups, providing tools for optimising data collection within practices, and  education and training for GPs, practice nurses and practice managers.

Governance

Sunshine Coast Health Network (trading as Country to Coast, Qld) is an independent not- for-profit organisation, structured as a company limited by guarantee. We are registered as a charity with the Australian Not for Profits and Charities Commission. We are a membership-based organisation with a Constitution and Board of Directors and hold an Annual General Meeting each year. Our Primary Health Network (PHN) is governed by organisational (voting) members who have responsibilities, such as election of the Board and overseeing the constitution.

Our Board

Our Board of Directors leads the strategic direction of the organisation and is responsible for our compliance and reporting to governing bodies such as the Australian Securities and Investment Commission and the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission. A skills-based governing body, our Board is comprised of experienced health professionals, business and legal experts and representatives from the not-for- profit sector.

About the Role

  • Established stakeholder networks across government, health providers, and community organisations, with the ability to leverage these to support collaboration and innovation.
  • Prior governance experience on public, private, or not-for-profit Boards, supported by governance education (e.g. AICD qualifications), and the confidence to contribute as an independent, strategic thinker.

As a NED you will play a central role in strengthening regional leadership, investing for impact and building the capability of the primary health system to meet the needs of local people today and into the future.
