Candidate Experience Still Matters
More than half of Australian employers had recruited recently in June, while 44% of those recruiting experienced difficulty filling vacancies. In that environment, maintaining relationships with capable candidates is not simply a matter of courtesy. It is an important part of preserving future access to talent.
Candidates notice clear communication, realistic timelines and respectful engagement. They also notice prolonged silence, repeatedly changing expectations and interview processes that appear disconnected from the role.
Even when a candidate is not appointed, the experience can influence whether they consider another opportunity with the organisation, refer someone from their network or speak positively about the process.
Today’s unsuccessful candidate may be suitable for another position in six months. They may also become a future client, stakeholder or source of referrals.
Good recruitment does not only secure the person appointed today. It protects the relationships an organisation may need tomorrow.
“Applying for a new opportunity takes courage and time, and every candidate deserves a thoughtful response. Many people register with us for future roles because they were referred by candidates who appreciated the way they were treated throughout the recruitment process.”
