Ai Is Changing Recruitment, But Not Replacing Judgement
Australia added 76,300 employed people in June, taking total employment to more than 14.8 million. Behind that figure is a labour market made up of individuals with different capabilities, motivations, circumstances and career histories. That complexity is precisely why recruitment judgement remains important.
AI can help organisations draft advertisements, summarise applications, automate administration, analyse pipelines and improve reporting. These tools can create meaningful efficiency when they allow recruiters and hiring managers to spend more time on higher-value engagement and assessment.
However, AI does not independently understand leadership maturity, organisational context, stakeholder complexity or the reasons behind an unconventional career path.
AI can make recruitment more efficient and better informed. Accountability for employment decisions must remain with people.
“AI is great at speeding up administrative tasks, but it still can’t consistently connect the dots between a candidate’s experience, transferable skills and what a role truly requires.”
